Dressage Team Selections
This information should be read in conjunction with the general dressage competition rules and information available from The National Pony Society website or from the Area 5 Dressage Chef d’Equipe on [email protected] A Team Challenge is incorporated in the 2013 Championship Final. Each Team to comprise four ponies and riders who have qualified for any section of the NPS/Fodder Solutions Supreme Dressage Championships 2012/2013. All four scores to count. Each Pony & Rider combination may only compete for one Team.
There will be both Preliminary & Novice Team Championships plus overall Supreme Team awards for Teams competing in both Tests.
1. Eligibility for Area 5 Team Selection
You must first qualify as an individual in the appropriate section in order to be eligible for team selection. The pony and rider nominated for team selection must be the same combination that qualified. You may apply to be in both a Prelim team and a Novice team if you have qualified as an individual at both levels.
2. Principles of Team Selection
Our aim is to facilitate the representation of NPS Area 5 at the final by as many members as wish to participate. Provided that total numbers are divisible by 4, we hope to be able to include everyone who applies for a team place. The intention is for teams to have a coherent rationale, e.g. by breed, by rider age, by level of experience, etc. In the event that numbers do not quite work out by 4, preference will be give on a first-come, first-served basis. You do NOT have to apply for team membership via NPS Area 5 just because you happen to be in that area. You are free to participate in any team that you wish to apply for, e.g. breed society teams and others.
3. Qualifying Rounds
A full list can be downloaded from the NPS website. You may qualify at any participating venue and do not have to qualify within Area 5.
4. Team Nomination Process
When you have qualified and submitted your individual qualification card to the NPS Dressage office, send the following details by email to [email protected]
- Rider Name and Age
- Pony Name and Breed
- Qualifying Score
- Section and level in which qualified
- Phone number and preferred email address
Team places and payment details will be confirmed by email. Team entries are made collectively. The cost is £4 per person to cover entry fees and postage and can be paid by cash or paypal.
5. Team Philosophy
This initiative aims to be a means of enabling Area 5 members to link up to form teams under the NPS 5 banner and with the backing of the NPS 5 Committee. The philosophy is inclusive – we aim to include everyone regardless of ability and to provide an encouraging context in which everyone can perform to the best of their ability, while also maximizing the Area’s chances of success in the final. If you want to join a team and don’t know who else has qualified or how to go about it, come to us, we’re here to help. If you have any questions about any aspect of the competition, don’t hesitate to ask. Email contact preferred, please.
If you want to have a go and are worried that you might not be good enough or that you might let other team members down…. Don’t be put off.
It’s all about doing the best YOU CAN on the day and having a really wonderful time.
No-one goes home empty-handed.
